FTC requires ISPs to share every detail of their data collection practices | TechCrunch

In an interesting development the FTC has launched a request for information that will shed more light on certain companies’ privacy practices. The most notable trend in FTC request for information is in our view the request made on companies around data collection practices and only after data processing practices. We are immensely grateful to the FTC if the result of this exercise will bring evidence that until companies are left free to implement privacy policies of their own conception and designs (read useful to their business model) consumers will not be well served and competition neither. We encourage the FTC to start looking at the benefits of harmonizing a minimal requirement threshold and taxonomy as it touches to privacy practices in certain industries at least (for example in industries that profile users for targeted advertisement purposes).
